Securities can be gifted to the Red Cross in two ways: either via electronic transfer (in which your broker transfers shares using the Red Cross DTC number) or by physically mailing the paper certificates to the Red Cross. Electronic delivery of mutual fund shares is the most secure and expedient delivery process available and provides efficient internal control as well as cost savings. The Red Cross has accounts open at many of the large fund companies, which is necessary to initiate the transfer. However, we recommend that you contact us to confirm if an account number is available. It may be necessary for us to initiate an account to accept transfers of shares.
